2 Corinthians 5:16-6:13

Old Testament

Proverbs 18:1-19:29

18:1

He who separates himself seeks his own desire And rages against all sound wisdom.

18:2

A fool has no delight in understanding, But only that his heart may reveal itself.

18:3

When the wicked man comes, contempt also comes; And with dishonor comes reproach.

18:4

The words of a man's mouth are deep waters, A gushing stream, a fountain of wisdom.

18:5

To respect the person of the wicked man is not good, Nor to turn aside the righteous man in judgment.

18:6

A fool's lips bring strife, And his mouth invites blows.

18:7

A fool's mouth is his ruin, And his lips are the snare of his soul.

18:8

The words of a whisperer are like dainty morsels, And they go down into the innermost parts of the body.

18:9

He also who is slack in his work Is brother to him who is a destroyer.

18:10

The name of Jehovah is a strong tower; The righteous man runs into it and is safe.

18:11

The rich man's substance is his strong city And like a high wall in his own imagination.

18:12

Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, But before honor goes humility.

18:13

As for him who gives an answer before he hears, It is folly and shame.

18:14

The spirit of a man can sustain his sickness, But a broken spirit who can bear?

18:15

The heart of one who has understanding acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

18:16

A man's gift makes room for him And brings him before great men.

18:17

The first to plead his case seems just, Until his neighbor comes and cross-examines him.

18:18

The lot causes contentions to cease And decides between the mighty.

18:19

A brother offended is harder to be gained than a strong city, And contentions are like the bars of a castle.

18:20

With the fruit of his mouth a man's stomach will be satisfied; With the produce of his lips he will be satisfied.

18:21

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

18:22

Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor from Jehovah.

18:23

The poor man utters supplications, But the rich man answers roughly.

18:24

A man of many friends comes to destruction, But there is a true friend that sticks closer than a brother.

19:1

Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity Than he who is perverse in his lips and is a fool.

19:2

Also it is not good for a person to be without knowledge, And he who makes haste with his feet sins.

19:3

The foolishness of a man subverts his way, And his heart is indignant toward Jehovah.

19:4

Wealth adds many friends, But the poor man is separated from his friend.

19:5

A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who utters lies will not escape.

19:6

Many will entreat the favor of the generous man, And every man is a friend to one who gives gifts.

19:7

All the brothers of the poor man hate him; How much more do his friends go far from him! He pursues them with words, but they are not there.

19:8

He who acquires sense loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good.

19:9

A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who utters lies will perish.

19:10

Delicate living is not fitting for a fool; Much less for a servant to rule over princes.

19:11

The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, And it is his glory to overlook a transgression.

19:12

The king's wrath is like the roaring of a lion, But his favor is like dew upon the grass.

19:13

A foolish son is the ruin of his father, And the contentions of a wife are a continual dripping.

19:14

House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers, But a prudent wife is from Jehovah.

19:15

Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep, And the idle soul will suffer hunger.

19:16

He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul; He who is careless of his ways will die.

19:17

He who has pity upon a poor man lends to Jehovah, And He will repay him for his good deed.

19:18

Discipline your son, for there is hope; But do not set your heart on destroying him.

19:19

A man of great wrath will bear the penalty; For if you deliver him, you will only have to do it again.

19:20

Listen to counsel, and receive instruction, That you may be wise at the end of your days.

19:21

There are many devices in a man's heart, But it is the counsel of Jehovah that will stand.

19:22

What is desirable in a man is his kindness, And a poor man is better than a liar.

19:23

The fear of Jehovah leads to life, And he who has it will lodge in contentment; He will not be visited with evil.

19:24

The sluggard buries his hand in the dish, And will not even bring it back to his mouth.

19:25

Strike a scorner, and the simple will learn prudence; And reprove one who has understanding, and he will understand knowledge.

19:26

He who does violence to his father and chases away his mother Is a son that causes shame and brings reproach.

19:27

Cease listening, my son, to instruction, And you will stray from the words of knowledge.

19:28

A worthless witness mocks justice, And the mouth of the wicked swallows up iniquity.

19:29

Judgments are prepared for scorners, And blows for the back of fools.

新約 New Testament

So then we, from now on, know no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him so no longer.

5:17

So then if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away; behold, they have become new.

5:18

一切都是出於神,祂藉著基督使我們與祂自己和好,又將這和好的職事賜給我們;

But all things are out from God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Christ and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

5:19

Namely, that God in Christ was reconciling the world to Himself, not accounting their offenses to them, and has put in us the word of reconciliation.

5:20

On behalf of Christ then we are ambassadors, as God entreats you through us; we beseech you on behalf of Christ, Be reconciled to God.

5:21

Him who did not know sin He made sin on our behalf that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

6:1

And working together with Him, we also entreat you not to receive the grace of God in vain;

6:2

For He says, "In an acceptable time I listened to you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.'' Behold, now is the well-acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

6:3

We give no occasion of stumbling in anything that the ministry may not be faulted,

6:4

But in everything we commend ourselves as ministers of God, in much endurance, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,

6:5

In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in watchings, in fastings;

6:6

In pureness, in knowledge, in long-suffering, in kindness, in a holy spirit, in unfeigned love,

6:7

In the word of truth, in the power of God; through the weapons of righteousness on the right and on the left,

6:8

藉著榮耀和羞辱,藉著惡名和美名,證薦自己是神的執事;似乎是迷惑人的,卻是真誠的;

Through glory and dishonor, through evil report and good report; as deceivers and yet true;

6:9

似乎不為人所知,卻是人所共知的;似乎在死,看哪,我們卻活著;似乎受管教,卻不被治死;

As unknown and yet well known; as dying and yet behold we live; as being disciplined and yet not being put to death;

6:10

As made sorrowful yet always rejoicing; as poor yet enriching many; as having nothing and yet possessing all things.

6:11

哥林多人哪,我們的口向你們是張開的,我們的心是寬宏的;

Our mouth is opened to you, Corinthians; our heart is enlarged.

6:12

You are not constricted in us, but you are constricted in your inward parts.

6:13

But for a recompense in kind, I speak as to children, you also be enlarged.
